With the Trans Temp Gauge in the 09+F150, what is the temp reading in degrees at the Yellow mark?
The following is what I observed with my then 07 F150.
My concern comes from overheating my Tranny with my 07 F150 SC 5.4L 3:73's/4x4 w/Trailer towing pkg. The 07 pulled the smaller tow hauler with ease, I did use a WDH/sway-bar control/trailer brakes. The Trailer at the most came in at 5500 lbs wet/loaded.
My Towing was all in the Mountains from 6500ft starting elevation to 10,000ft. 90% was on payment with the other pulling at less than 15mph on graded Forest Service roads, no more than 10 miles of a winding FS Road to the campsite.
I did this for 2yrs w/the 07 before someone asked me what my Tranny temps were at during towing. I had no answer, so since that was bought up I decided to install a digital Temp transmission gauge, I was shocked by the readings, when I got home I took it into Ford and had the trans oil change, it was dark brown after just 22,000 miles. It did not smell burnt but if I hadn't installed the temp gauge I would of never known of a problem till it was too late. The Dealer/Ford checked the stock transmission cooler and it was working correctly. With the Dealers input, a additional aux Trans cooler w/fan was installed, a B&M 7" trans cooler, the fan would kick on at 175 Degrees/off at 144.
The trans Max temps were 340F degrees with the Ford Transmission cooler with a avg of 300F while towing up and through the Mountains.
After the B&M Fan assist cooler was installed the temps never went over 205F and the 205F reading was at the very end of where I was setting up camp, the avg temp stayed at 192F.
So this brings me back to my current '10 F150, it too has the factory towing pkg/trans cooler and I am pulling the exact Toy Hauler as before.
I decided it would be best to go ahead and Monitor the Trans temp with a Edge CTS Insight but any true towing w/my toyhauler is 3-4 months away, in the meantime I will observe what the Temps read w/o towing.
I havebeen told that Today's Trannies are built very well and can take allot of abuse but what these trucks cost these days I rather know up front exactly what my Trans temps are at, plus I can Monitor just about anything else as well with the Edge Insight.
The Trans cooler in the 09+F150s is completely different set-up than what my 07 had, is located for way better air-flow as well but doesn't seem to be very big for a trans cooler. My other Fords were Superduties and the trans coolers on those 4 were never a issue.
Has anyone else been monitoring your Trans temps with the +09 F150s with a aftermarket gauge, either a programmer, Bullydog Watchdog or the Edge products?
The 6r80 can run up to 220 without worries, but is considered the upper end of the "normal" range. the yellow range should be 230, and red would be 240.
this is as close to the horses mouth as you are going to get:

Exactly the info I was needing.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Did they offer the integrated trailer brake controller on these years? I tow maybe six or eight times a year, but I'll need some kind of trailer brakes. Running a tekonsha prodigy P2 right now, and very happy with it. I hear the Ford one is great.
Looking for a backup camera for sure.
Thoughts?
sent the bilsteins back. ruined my upper control arm trying to get it off. had to cut it off after that then replace with a new one. i didn't want to repeat it on the other side so i said the hell with it. ran out of patience.
