I am not familiar with the 74 door panels but they fit great on my 79's...I have purchased several of these clips over the years and haven't had any problems at all...maybe someone will chime in as to the 74 door panels...? Are your doors and panels OE or aftermarket?

I definitely would not hack up a good set of door panels to accommodate the retainer. Check out the link GLR provided to Auveco. That supplier is bound to have a retainer that'll fit your needs.

I did a recent install of door speakers. Autozone stocks white ones that say for GM vehicles on a little rack with brass brake line hardware and such. GM or not, they work just fine for us blue oval guys. I think i paid $3 for 20.

Maybe you need to read a little better, or I did not explain myself well enough? I never said hack up a door panel, I said cut the press in stud/tab.

Meaning the plastic stud that slips in the groove in the back side of the door panel then it goes in the door. Most people trash the groove on the back side of the door panel removing them cause the plastic or metal stud will not pull out of the metal door hole very easy.

And the plastic part holding the other end of the stud cracks, breaks ect....that is also why I said to reinforce that areas with epoxy. DO NOT EPOXY THE STUD IN THE DOOR PANEL, just reinforce the area around it.

Cut the "plastic stud", using a hack saw blade you can pull the door panel out just a bit and slip the hacksaw blade in there and cut them in a few sec.

All this is is advice on how to not trash a $100 each set of door panels. I just do it to prevent from cracking to pieces the back side of the door panel.

Just wanted to clarify that for you, ok?

I knew what you were talking about. Even when using a door panel removing tool, those ears can break no matter how careful you are. (don't ask)

If you have a PNP near you, plenty of different makes/models use this fastener. You can usually get a bagful for about $5. Ace hardware here in Cali carries those clips also.

Sorry for the confusion. The comment of hacking the door panels was a reply to what blue04.5 mentioned about conforming his panels to fit the pins. Reckon I should have quoted his comment in the reply.

The hdgapeach was created by the wife. She's the Georgia Peach and the hd refers to our Harley Davidson's. I'm just too lazy to remember different usernames. I cruise several forums all with the same username.

Just now getting home tonight and didn't get a chance to get to any place before closing time. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get off in time to hit every store, dealership and body shop supply house between Atlanta and Franklin!

Georgia Legislative session is going full swing and I'm stuck at the Capitol till it's over. Representatives and Senators tend to enjoy odd-ball hours sometimes during the forty day session.

Ahhh hdgapeach "Harley Davidson" got it.

Yea I had a "Georgia Peach" from the Port Wentworth/Savannah area as a wife once.

Found out she was rotten to the core, so had to divorce her.

Right there with you on that one! First one was more of a prune than anything else. That experience taught me what I should have been looking for to begin with! Got it right the second time, definitely a Peach! Feel like she puts up with me. Last time I know I was putting up with the troll....

Dealership, Advance, O'Reillys, Lowes and Auto body supply stores all a no-go for the retainers. Last stop this evening was across the border in Roanoke, AL at the CARQUEST (formerly NAPA). Didn't have 'em on the shelves but ordered me a bag of 25 and they'll cost me $8.00. Be at the store by 8:00 tomorrow morning. We looked them up in his Auveco catalogue.

Thanks again GLR for the link.

Anyone actually find a direct link to ones that fit? These little white ones are not going to work for about 1/2 of us it seems. We need the very large, fatter, black, about 2-3in ones.
autozones... lmc... O'Rylies.. no go.

I wonder if these would work for you guys - looks about like what goes in the trunk of my Mustang to hold the trim around the latch ...
