You guys have been VERY helpful, I can't express enough just how much so. (Reps sent!)

Actually ended up with this one: Westinghouse UW40TA2W Series 40" 1080p LED HDTV UW40TA2W - Micro Center

The 40" will fit the room a bit better I think---the 48-50" looked too large when I had a chance to see various sets side-by-side. Been busy since dragging this inside so not yet had a chance to set it up and begin the review process. A great thing about Micro Center is I have 30 days from purchase to return "just because........" and receive 100% credit towards something else. That ain't bad no matter what I originally bought.

I'm sure the Westinghouse brand isn't the best but since this is my first new-era TV purchase I need to start somewhere. With the 3-year full replacement/refund warranty package I'm sure to at minimum recoup what I paid if I choose to go with a better brand in the future. Spent like $365 out the door----not bad I thought.

I'll probably think of adding a "sound bar" or something simple IF the on-board speakers aren't to my liking.

Here's what the new TV will be replacin.

Good choice. That's a nice Tv, you will be happy with it

You can hook your stereo up to the new TV. there are RCA cable outputs on the back or bottom. I have mine hooked up that way. I also got the better remote from Verizon, that allows me to have tv, cable, stereo, and blue ray on the same remote

Good choice, and congrats! I have (2) Westinghouse TVs. The 20" that I bought 10 years ago for the toy hauler, and a 40" LED at the Vegas house. They're both great TVs. Post back after you watch your first 1080p HD program, and tell us what you think.

Next you can get rid of say, 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 of your VCRs, and move up to a BluRay player. They'll play any DVDs you already have, and if there's a movie you really like, get the BluRay disc. The difference in picture quality between DVD and BluRay, is almost as drastic as your old TV to the new one. They really look that much better.

My parents have the Westinghouse 40 or 42 inch also. They had difficulty hearing with the tv speakers, so I bought them a insignia soundbar for 100 bucks. They love the setup now.

A soundbar with the wireless sub can be bought for about 250.

I think you will be happy with your new purchase.

Looks like a blast from the past huh?

I get NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, 2 PBS and CW----there's more available in my area but those are the only ones of interest to me.

Not sure when/if a Blue Ray player is on the list but getting rid of the VCR fleet is high on the list. I hope to have built a "media center" computer with NTSC tuners, hard drives and software to function in the same capacity.

Not only will that clean up the clutter but the designed-in functionality will be a time saver for me too. I don't spend hours upon hours watching TV but do want it to be as trouble and hassle free as it can be.

Still not even fired the new TV up---between working and finding the right crap to go along with this AND making arrangements to get rid of the other stuff---its almost overwhelming!

60" Aquos, full internet capability, surround sound system with subwoofer.

Love the sound and the internet features. We can beam things from our Android phones right onto the TV. The picture and color are great. Couldn't he happier for the price that we paid, about $1300 total at Best Buy.

I already have four of those in use presently---one each for the tunerless VCR's and one for the soon to be replaced 1980's TV. They work great, gave new life to other wise perfectly usable TV's rendered obsolete with the conversion to DTV signal only broadcasts.
