I'm new here. I'm from West Palm Beach area. Please see my question below.
******************************************
I want to purchase a used 2001/2002 F250 with a 5.4L gas. I want to tow, occasionally (<10 times per year and no greater than 150 miles one way) and/or a TT (5K weight) up to 800 miles one way <2 times per year).
Upon reading comments I'm getting nervous about this combo. Do I want to upgrade to a diesel? If so, 6.0 okay? I've been told that diesel's are not reliable and very expensive to fix.
Please give me some advice before I make a mistake.
Thanks.
Don

Hi Don, I used to use an E150 conversion van to tow a 22" car hauler. Had the 5.4 and tow package, rated for 7700#. Made many trips from MI to FL, did a reasonable job, except for the sway from passing trucks. Used a load equalizing hitch and a friction type anti sway control. I also use a F350 diesel dually crew cab, no sway with the dual wheels, & lots more horsepower for the hills. Both trucks were trouble free.
Bottom line, if this is also a daily driver, I'd vote for the 5.4 and get the best hitch, brake contoller and sway control you can.
Hope this helps
Ed
