towing mirrors

My build up for my 74 will be mostly for towing. I actually love my telescopic mirrors on my excursion. Haven't done any towing with a dent, so what do you all use and how do you like them?

Type 2, 3, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13 should work. You Expedition mirrors can be made to fit, with body work. But 12,13 probably being the best and the easiest. Ebay time....

How wide a load are you planning on towing? Both of my pick ups have Type 9 mirrors. The only time I would like to have something else is when I move a sea container. As long as the trailer isn't over seven feet wide at mirror height, I can see just fine with my mirrors. I buy two inch convex mirrors and glue them to the outside lower corner of each mirror to help with blind spots, too.

Type 9's are what many of the 80-86's have, ive got them on my 76.........i havent towed with the 76, ive got a Dodge w/cummins for that........Kinda depends on whether you prefer the higher mounted, more vertical styled ones, like the type 3 or 12, or the so called low mount style, 460me pictured those above.......I would suggest you look at a bunch of different styles, and see what seems to suit you.......I have had the type 12's or something really similar on both a Ford as well as an old Dodge, i really liked having lots of vertical view, and i added clamp on convex rounds directly underneath the rectangular mirror heads. I liked being able to see both down low near the trailer bottom rear corners, and its wheels, tires, taillights.....as well as up high to watch for tree branches, roof overhangs, etc. I liked being able to see pretty much everything on one side without moving my head around. It also depends on what your towing, something low to medium height like a flatbed, dump trailer, pop up tent trailer, or something rather tall like a horse trailer, travel trailer, enclosed car trailer.

Current pulling a travel trailer, but might go to a fifth wheel. I am going with more vertical as I also like seeing the whole side of the trailer. Won't need the mirrors as much for backing as I do with excursion, lot of space in that X between me and back window.

I am gonna have a very nice set of type 8's for sell shortly (same as 460me has in post#2). I am pulling them off my 79 F350 4x4 SC camper special. These are the original factory mirrors. I am going to install type 9's on it since I don't need these big tow mirrors.

I have a set of type 11 and type 12. Both are stainless steel. And both can come painted also. Usually in white. The 11's are going on my 86 f150 and the 12's will go on my 78 f150. Unless I happen to score another set of type 11 in stainless.

Are the type 9s from 80s models identical to the Dentside ones? Do they bolt right up?

Are the type 9 mounting holes the only holes on the doors, or did it have other mirrors mounted before?
