There are many time I put the tease in 4LOW to jockey the trailer around because Reverse is NOt low enough.
But I use my truck, which it doesn't seem like a lot of guys here do other than just to drive it
I do the same thing quite a bit for backing trailers and such. Manual hubs (unlocked) and 4LO = 2LO for backing up with a trailer. That's definitely nice.
I don't know why more people don't use 4low to back a trailer up. I have an automatic and when you are towing close to 26 or over, it's very convenient to have the power, control, and not have to burn up the transmission or clutch in tight places or hills.
But like was said, most people don't use their truck, as a real truck.
Your auto PCM will work just fine but you will get the romps on start up. Have your chip burned to the newest and greatest manual PCM code, which I think is ALF4 or 6. The chip will override everything in the PCM and since your swapping in a 5-speed you will be fine to use what ever code PCM, auto or manual.
Clear as mud right...
Diesel Rod
This is not correct.
You ALWAYS have to have your chip burned to match your PCM, so if your PCM is for auto trans then your chip has to be, too, or they simply won't communicate.
You can run the auto tuning/PCM in a 5spd truck, but it'll run weird and give a rough idle.
If you can't find a manual PCM you can have the auto PCM reflashed to manual, then get manual chip tuning. It's really the way to go.
Been there done that.
