sanders...

im in the process of getting some bodywork tools together and saw how many types of sanders there are. belt, circular ect... what type of sander and what size sanding surface do you guys recomend for body work?

Without a question, a 6" DA sander is my most often used power sander. I prefer a palm sander version because it gives you more control.

For hand sanding, I also make good use of a long board and a small sanding block. When it comes time to colorsand, I use a soft pad.

ok forgive my ignorance here but what does DA stand for?

A DA (dual action) sander spins and at the same time, oscillates. You end up with small, oval shaped sanding marks instead of grinding marks. In essences, it turns a grinder into a sander.

The term is pronounced "Dee A". If you say, "I used a DA to sand my vehicle", anyone in the trade would know exactly what you are talking about.
