Hello to all, my 2000 Excursion is awseome but "Rudy" my son named the truck after watching Ice Age, has a few quirks. Body role sucks and lane wandering is getting tiring, what do i look at first to fix each issue. Also the undercarriage rattles like crazy, i am thinking of replacing all leaf springs and this might fix more than one issue. Any suggestions or past history of these faults would be great, thanku
Welcome and congrats on the X. Get something to drink, sit down and search the forum for V/B spring mod, Steering box, ball joints and shocks just for starters. That should occupy you for a day or so! WARNING! Working on these trucks can be habit forming! Even when work is not REQUIRED! These people here are the best around at piddling with the X. IF you want to know something, just ask. One of us has most likely done it.
Again, Congrats!
Body roll: get a hellwig rear sway bar, you prob don't have stock rear swaybar, few do. It will solve roll prob, but make driveway to street transitions very rough as wheels transition left, right, left, right
Lots of threads on wander, redhead steering gear, tires, tire pressure, alignment, and rearsway bar all can help, depending on the which is most at fault.
Clunking, is often front swaybar links. The bolts don't fit snuggly, so the link and bolt beat up each other. Also front suspension or exhaust system.
Tons to read, set a budget, because we can help empty your pockets with tons of upgrade suggestions..
Just did Ball joints, sway bar links and front end alignment to mine last week. It helped the drivability somewhat but the body roll is still there. I'm betting that rear swaybar is the only cure for that illness. I will say though, nice quiet RATTLE free ride after all that, big improvement no doubt!
