OK so I've heard the 300 gets 223 ft-lbs @ 1600 RPM and ~120 horsepower @ 3400 RPM. If you follow the equation HP=(Torque x RPM)/5252 you end up with the horsepower at ~68. That's nowhere near the correct rating. Then, working backward by solving for torque, setting horsepower at 120@3400 RPM u arrive at 180 torque. The formula works on most engines, why not the 300?

I based all of this on my 1983 year model I6.

All looks good to me, what's wrong with those numbers?

The answers to the formula show the horsepower at 68 (half what is specified) and the torque as 180 (a 43 ft-lb difference in the formulas answer and what the specs say.

When the 300 is making 223 lbft of torque it's making ~68hp and when it's making 120hp it's making ~180 lbft of torque.

HP is a linear function of rpm and torque, that's why the hp and torque lines always cross at 5252 on a dyno graph.

Ohhh. I thought u could use the formula to solve for Max torque and Max horsepower. But no it actually measures the torque while horsepower is at a given amount. Alright thanks. That'll help on my votech work.

The documented output is actually:

carb'd

120hp @ 3000 RPMs
255tq @ 1400 RPMs

EFI

145hp @ 3200 RPMs
260tq @ 2000 RPMs

Or very close to that.

Thank u. I've heard multiple numbers from multiple sources. I could never find any solid numbers. Thanks!
