I have a 95 PSD Dually with automatic trans. 91,000 miles and I have owned it since 20,000. Just recently the trans seems to be running much warmer than usual intermitently. I have the banks kit on it with the trans-command and guages. The trans used to never get above 180 with the camper on even pulling hills and would typically run around 160. Recently it is getting up to around 220 on flat freeway driving? Just serviced the trans, which I do every 10,000 miles and fluid was still in great shape and no abnormal wear in pan??? Thinking of putting on a bigger trans cooler from the factory one. Any ideas or suggestions???
Thanks!
I've got a Tru-cool unit on mine, with a GVW of 28000 lbs. It's a stacked plate unit, which is much better than the tube-and-fin style. Hayden also makes a good stacked plate unit. Whichever you choose, replace the stock unit with the new one, don't try to run them in series. The stock unit has a GVW of 10000 lbs, and can cause a restriction in flow of the fluid.
They aren't very expensive, mine was about $80.
Good luck.
Thanks for the info Quadzilla. I have been looking at the B&M 28,000 gvw rated cooler. While I am at it I may even add a remote trans filter. I am really concerned why the problem is just now starting, hopefully not the start of a trashed tranny.
Thanks again!
The idea of a remote filter is a good one. I've got a Magnefine on mine, and it's mounted at the inlet to the cooler, behind the grille. It's a great way to go. I'm sorry I didn't suggest it in the first place.
Like most of the mods on my truck, I got mine through TYMAR. info@TymarPerformance.com is the way to contact him, but be prepared- he's a one-man show, and he's very busy, so it might take a little while for him to get back to you.
