I picked up a beater plow truck to have fun with during the winter. The truck has 108,000 miles on it and its very worn out to say the least. Come spring its due for a front end re-build and new springs, as they are almost hitting the bump stops with no plow on it. This truck has had a hard life but with some TLC I hope to make a little project out of it.
I really have two questions, one regarding springs. I know the spring codes for the 99-04 trucks but I cant seem to find much on the OBS trucks. I talked to a local spring shop and he told me that with the older trucks there was really only a "diesel" spring and a "gasser" spring pack. Needless to say Im going with the heaviest ones readily available for the truck. Is there something specific I should ask for weight rating wise? Ill have to post pics of the beater once I get into it. one of the 5 PO's may have changed the doors at one point so needless to say I cant get in it, Luckily those pesky little wing windows are small when I have to break one!
Kdr, I have the exact same truck (except mine is reg cab) going through the same procedure. I just picked up springs yesterday, hopefully will have them on this weekend. I went with the 3485lb springs (diesel) as opposed to the 2755lb springs (which my truck has now from factory). I went with the 3485 springs because that is what they stocked and all they ever really sell. He said they sell hundreds of pairs of those springs every year and seemed very knowledgeable on the subject of TTB F250 Fords. We'll see this weekend. I plan on reporting on this website.
Thank you Mike for the information! I'm close to doing this as well I look forward to hearing how it goes. Are you changing out any other suspension parts? Tie rods, drag link, pitman arm, shocks etc.?

The heavier rated springs that were mentioned above are a very popular replacement for these years Fords. It gives you a very nice added weight capacity without absolutely killing your ride quality, it still won't feel like your bouncing on clouds but you get the point haha. Keep in mind the heaver springs will raise your front slightly, but because your using it for plowing, it should work pretty well for you!
