So, I've seen a few posts about the CTS. I was getting all hot and bothered to order one. Seemed really neat. Then I thought, what the heck do I need to know all this stuff for? I'm not knocking those who bought one. Just looking for a real reason to need one. I work my truck hard. Tow with it year round from boat, to sled trailer, to 16k toyhauler. I plow with it in the winter too. However, I've never really worried about when it regens etc. The only gauge I ever look at is fuel level, LOL. Is this more for the curious at heart or is there a practical reason for it's use?
I don't have the Edge, but I am making use of a ScanGaugeII. It doesn't give me all the information that the Edge offers, but then I already had it and it does give me what I would like to have. I use it for corrected MPH, watching EGT number 1 and 4, and EOT (engine oil temp). The only one I watch often is the MPH read out.
The SGII also offers a memory recall of various gauges such as gallons used since last refill or on last trip or day, max water temp for the same setting, max MPH, RPM, and so on.
It also allows for reading any codes as well as clearing codes.
Do I need it, not really. Do I like it for what it offers or may need in the future...yes.
Thanks guys. I'm kind of with GSXR. I do have my MFD already set up to do trans and oil temp. I am curious about when I will hit a regen and wish Ford at least had an indicator telling you when it was happening. (Constant, not flash.) Hmm. I'm running out of room for gizmos. I abhor Ford's charge for factory NAV so I have a Garmin that sits on the dash from time to time, a monitor for the back up cam on my RV, a TPMS monitor for my RV, and a radar detector. If ever I wanted all these at once, I wouldn't be able to see out my windshield.
I did a ton of research and this is the only wireless system worth buying for the distance we have with a 5th. Otherwise you need a wired setup and there was no way I was doing that. They also have the identical system with a smaller monitor for less money.Digital Wireless Observation System featuring WiSight Technology
Only $80 or so cheaper so I went with the larger one.
Not to go off subject, though I am. What kind of a trailer TPMS did you go with? One with the screw on caps for pressure only or did you go with the mount inside the tire on the rim pressure and temp display system. Any recommendation as to one brand over the other?
And last question, did you install it on the trailer only or also on the truck?

Eh, we already got off subject with the back up camera, so why not! I went with TST. Best in the industry IMHO. One to stay away from is Hawks Head. The polar opposite, worst out there for product and customer support. I went with the screw on sensors. You should upgrade to metal valve stems to handle the weight of the sensor but that's only 5 bucks a wheel or so. Works FANTASTIC. I didn't do the truck since it already has a system albeit not nearly as advanced. They now make a better system if you want an external screw on system with flow through sensors so you don't have to remove them to add air. If I were to do it again, I'd get those. In fact, if ever any of my sensors fail, I'll get a set of those to replace all of mine. Pretty slick...

Practical reason is for when you're in the middle of nowhere and a sensor shuts you down.My 2014 has been back to the dealer three times in 2,700 miles for sensors and wiring. It's more for piece of mind if it throws a cel ,if it's a sensor and you have a spare one you can change it and clear it and be on your way(hopefully).I also like to know the soot buildup as being the only vehicle I have for the winter and use it for everything from running to the store, local driving, plowing, trailering. I tend to build up more soot than someone who uses their truck for hard work or long hauls. It's not for everyone but with the sensor failures I've had I like having the option.
Well, I own a 6.7, have an Edge that I love, use the TST TPMS system and want a backup camera for the camper. Now, is that off topic? Seriously, I use the Edge to watch the parameters that I want, check the codes for the check engine lights(if they come on) and just to keep an eye on the pulse of the truck. And YES, you get obsessed with it!
The truck will take care of itself. We all know that.
However, I personally have one because I like monitoring information.
I want to know what's going on just because I can.
I also use mine as a daily driver so I want to complete regenerations when possible and the Edge provides that information.
From oil tests, I have less diesel in the oil when I complete as many regenerations as possible than I do if I don't care and it takes 4-5 regenerations to do the work of one over the period of 5,000 miles.
I also have the basic information center so I don't have the factory EOT or TFT screens so that was another reason.

Reason: Edit... TFT not FTF...
