I actually was able to figure it out after I calmed down and thought about it for a few minutes.
I think I will be able fix it by making a spacer ring to go under the distributor. I think .060 or .090 thick will be enough. That and shave some material off of the intake and It should be enough to have enough clearance to operate properly.
Where the teeth mesh is important as well. Pull the dizzy after a while to check the contact pattern. If it's really biased to one side you can always drill another hole in the shaft to relocate the gear to compensate.
I got it fixed. I made a spacer ring .090" thick and put it under the distributor. Then took my biggest double cut file and made a few passes on the manifold. It clears now.
And yes I will pull it again in a few hundred miles to check the wear pattern. It was right in the middle before so I think I'll be ok.
