This is hardly extreme... Welcome to Canada.
I don't need my truck to last 10 years. I will drive it into the ground and buy another one. These trucks are anything but rare or limited production, they make them, and they crush them every day. If I flip this truck into a ditch tomorrow and I live to tell the tale, there will be at least 20 more fleet special crew cab long bed trucks sitting side by side at the dealer.
By the way, my truck sleeps in a heated garage most of the time. But ya enjoy your rusted out beater!
-36 and started ir unplugged dumb as hell if u ask me bro .. just saying
I am super smart so I only go to -35. -36 would be crazy
I have not plugged my truck in one time this winter ..... and no heated garage for me .... no beater either.
Life is tough enough .... why would I drive a nice truck in the winter?

Last time I checked they were special order only TRENT
Well I don't see any place to plug any of those super duties in during the winter, what a dumb ford dealer, do they park them all winter and only sell in the spring??

You say money is no issue but resale value is important to you?
Being smart about your stuff puts more money in your pocket you say? You sell your trucks every two years, you have to get screwed everytime.I dont get it.
I just dont get it.If you only keep it for two years why would you want to drive a beater most of the time and not drive your beautiful 50k truck?

I'm not ranting at ya, I enjoy this discussion actually. You should see my actual rants!
I agree that taking care of things instead of neglecting them will go a long way.
But at the same time, there is a difference between taking good care of equipment and just plain not using the equipment. However I purchased the equipment to serve a purpose, benefit myself, and make certain tasks easier. If I am not using the equipment, it is doing me no good, then I wonder why I am using an inferior tool to accomplish something when I have something better. There are some operating costs which remain constant regardless of use, so better make the most of it.
Say I buy a skid steer. I could park it in my garage all day and all night and rarely use it, and only have about 70 engine hours by the time 2 years rolls around and I go to sell it. I performed all the seasonal maintenance work during that time regardless of the fact that I rarely used it. So that skid steer has a very good value out on the market, but I have not made the equipment pay for itself during that time I have owned it. The economics do not make sense there. That power tool should be out on the job site every day making it worth while.
Land is an investment, my truck is a money pit and that's fine with me.
In my current life situation, I don't have a wife or kids or a family or pets to feed and take care of. Everyone has different priorities and that's fine, and people's priorities may change as they go through life. So your truck, to you, is a tow vehicle and you drag your boat around with it and otherwise you don't really need the truck. That's fine, I got no problem with that, but why should you have a problem with me (or others here) using the truck as a daily driver? This whole discussion, while I feel it has been generally level headed despite our differing thoughts, pretty much sparked from your comment that driving our trucks in cold weather (which is perfectly normal and expected here) was "dumb as hell". So you can't go and state that and then wonder why you have struck a nerve with a few people here.
