I replaced it with an MBRP "race pipe".

A few notes
It took about 6 hrs in a friends driveway, and I had some assistance, and while you could do it by yourself, when you get to actually removing the existing exhaust, it is much easier with 2.
The instructions provided seemed reasonably decent, although a couple of changes. They did not mention removing the exhaust hangers where they are bolted to the chassis, this makes removal of the exhaust a lot easier as the rubber mounts are difficult to get off in situ, and for 2 of the 3 hangers, they need to be removed anyway, as the straight pipe only uses 1.
You also don't need to remove the rear tailpipe as suggested in the instructions, there is enough "wiggle" in the tailpipe for you to both be able to remove the DPF exhaust, and fit the replacement.
Getting at/and removing the sensors was a bit more difficult than anticipated. I don't know how one could do it on the side of the road with a hot exhaust if they fail.

As for driving, the throttle response is much better (even compared to being tuned with emissions present), it takes quite a bit longer for the truck to warm up, I am guessing from the disabled EGR (I haven't removed that yet), it is noticeably louder, not as bad as the 7.3 I had that was straight piped as well, but it is a bit louder than I would like.

Yeah, it definitely makes the truck drive nicer.

My plan is to convert the truck to RHD and ship it back to Aus eventually (before I have to do an emissions inspection!), and I have some ideas what I want to do to the exhaust then (essentially run it outboard of the chassis rails from the transfer case back, and dump it out just before the rear tires - so I can fit a second fuel tank on the right side of the tail shaft inside the chassis rails), but for now just having the race pipe and stock looking exhaust tip is good, given my current location

Must be those cheap Chinese bolts they use to keep the rocket ship under the trucks. I'm pretty sure mine are also Chinese and may not last as long as the rest of the truck. In fact, I've already made preparations in case they fail within the next 6 months or so. If and when mine falls off, I wanted to make sure I had something to put in its place. Amy at SPE is great!

I know. I suggest everyone get a Minimaxx, and race pipe just in case

Odd how some fall off and some stay on.
We cannot tolerate this inconsistency, Ford needs to fix this.

I've been thinking lately if I should buy the items needed for this project in case such items become more difficult (and expensive) to find in future years.

Hmmm...when those things fall off, do you have to fool the computer somehow so it doesn't set codes? Also, I assume you can kiss your warranty goodbye, right?

Yes and Yes (for any issues that Ford can say were caused by tuning/removing).

Your truck won't move without a DPF if you don't have a tuner that can fool it (H&S or Minimaxx)
