6.4L Diagnostic Code Answers
Have an 08 F350 CC FX4 and the service engine light just came on after 6000km's. I got the codes off the truck (via an SCT Tuner) but have no clue what they mean. Does anyone know a reliable place to find out what all the codes mean?? I got 6 different codes off it today and they are U0115 , U0100, U0101 , P2002 , P115A, P0297 if anyone can help me and let me know what these mean it would be appreciated?? Also would be nice to know where to find them in the future so I can find them myself and don't have to bother anyone else.
Thanks

P0297 - Vehicle Overspeed Condition
Detailed Description...
This DTC is set when the vehicle speed limiting conditions have been encountered which is 153 km/h (95 MPH) for F250/F350 vehicles and 130 km/h (81 MPH) for F450/F550 vehicles. The powertrain control module (PCM) limits vehicle speed by limiting fuel when these conditions are met. Fuel is limited only to prevent the vehicle from being operated above the respective speeds and once the vehicle is operated below these speeds there is no limiting.
Possible Causes...
Vehicle driven at a high rate of speed
Diagnostic Aids...
Indicates the vehicle has been operated above the calibrated limited vehicle speed.
P115A - Low Fuel Level - Forced Limited Power
Detailed Description...
Fuel level information is sent from the instrument cluster to the powertrain control module (PCM) on the communication link. If an excessively low fuel level input message is received by the PCM from the instrument cluster, the PCM limits the fuel rail pressure (FRP) and sets DTC P115A.
Possible Causes...
Empty fuel tank
Fuel conditioning module circuitry
Fuel tank control module
Instrument cluster
PCM
Diagnostic Aids...
Monitor the FLI PIDs with key ON, engine running. A concern is present if the FLI percentage PID is at 25% and the FLI voltage PID is less than 0.90 volt with a non-matching fuel gauge.
P2002 - Diesel Particulate Filter Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
Detailed Description...
The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the efficiency of the diesel particulate filter for a concern. The efficiency of the filter is determined by the amount of restriction in the filter for a certain exhaust flow rate. The diesel particulate filter is preconditioned for 5,000 km (3,107 miles) before the PCM begins to monitor the level of restriction. The test fails when the measured level of restriction is less than the expected level calculated by the PCM.
Possible Causes...
Dirty air cleaner element
Recent manual or thorough diesel particulate filter regeneration
Aftermarket accessories and performance modifications
Modified tailpipe
Exhaust leaks before or near the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor
Leaks in the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor connecting hose
Damaged diesel particulate filter
Diagnostic Aids...
Check for leaks in the exhaust system. Check for aftermarket exhaust accessories and performance modifications that decrease the exhaust restriction. If a new diesel particulate filter was recently installed, verify the diesel particulate filter parameter reset procedure was carried out.
U0100 - Lost Communication With ECM/PCM - TCM (Transmission Control Module)
U0101 - Lost Communication With Transmission Control Module (TCM) - Instrument Cluster (IC)
U0115 - Lost Communication With ECM/PCM - Secondary (SPCM) - TBC (Trailer Brake Controller) Module
The majority of the issues seem related to you tuner. You also drive too fast...

Thanks alot for the reply PowerStrokeHD, I won't deny my heavy foot for the over speed issue and ran it a little low on fuel a week ago so that might explain those issues. Also have an S&B cold air intake installed so that may explain the 3rd. Putting on the DPF/CAT delete pipe in a couple weeks and then gonna play with the tuner for real to see if I can get some more power and a little better MPG out of it. Wish me luck,
Thanks,
Brandon

I know this is an older thread but did a search and found it.
I just got the P0297 Vehicle Overspeed Condition code this morning. I had driven 200 miles, never went over 75mph, parked the truck at a motel for four ays so I could work, used the company truck the whole time and then, started it this morning to leave and the dtc light was on. This is the first time I've seen this code. I cleared it, drove the 200 miles back home, did 95mph at one point and it never came on again.
My question is...why did the code come up when the truck sat in a motel parking lot for four days? Isn't this a code telling me that I'm going to fast for the vehicle's limits?
Just want to make sure it's nothing serious as I am taking a vacation in two days and going to put on about 2,000 miles.

Yes, I do enjoy the skinny go pedal from time to time. Living in Nevada with 70mph speed limits and nobody on the roads is so much different than living in New Jersey! However, this is the first time that code was thrown since I've owned the truck (over three years). I've gone over 100 without throwing the code.

OK, Maybe ya'll can help me out. I tried to use an SCT livewire programmer. Started truck, shut it off, came inside went to leave for work it wouldn't start. Came home reset it to Stock, truck started, shut it off wouldn't start again. Checked DTC and U0100 and U0115 Lost Connection to ECM/PCM came up. I tried resetting the codes, tried unhooking negatives posts, nothing, still won't start and giving codes. Of all the threads I've read, I have not figured how to fix this issue. My truck will not start at all now. Powers Up, sounds like it should start. It just doesn't.
