Hi I'm hoping someone can help me out? I'm looking at a used ford grill on an auction that is in awesome shape! It is in a original Ford plastic sleeve with an original packing slip. D6tz-8200-a that looks totally legit, the seller bought it at an auction and isn't sure. It's a little dirty but in amazing shape! The only markings on it is 73-77 stamped in it. And where the FORD letters mount it is painted black? I bought a Dennis carpenter ford tooling one and where the letters mount it is just aluminum color.... I am trying to get back to original ford on the couple pieces that I had to buy aftermarket when I was building the truck. Any input would be greatly appreciated, the auction ends soon.
Thnx, frank
Well if you can afford a $550 repo and can get this one way cheaper, go for it. The DC one on line shows it being black where the letters go, but yours from them is not black there, huh?
My 77 is black behind the letters, and behind the bumper, it that helps? And yes I painted my plastic inserts.

Be carefull buying a 40 year old NOS grill.
I once bought an OEM / NOS grille shell in a FOMOCO Poly bag unopened on ebay. Ended up paying $500. When it arrived on UPS, at first it looked good, but upon opening the original bag, it was all beat to hell. Yes, it was new and pretty nice but not $500 perfect for a frame off restoration. The seller did not package it in a box, merely slapped a UPS label on the bag. When I called him out on it , he just blamed it on UPS.
To me many of the dents and dings looked to be from 40 years of sitting in a parts room. The original poly bag packaging is not suffient to properly protect such an expensive cosmetic item.
I did get my money back, but it came from UPS and I felt it should have came from the seller.
To properly inspect it, it must be removed from the bag. The bag makes it difficult to see all the little dings that jump out at you when it's mounted on the truck.
dgully, condolences to you right now, cause it does not sound like its a good one from any one on here in the last 6 years about there outer grill shell fit and finish.
Good luck to you, I am pretty sure you will need it.

Good afternoon Rich, but then it's already tomorrow in Moscow, right? .
The earlier original Ford grills have the month and year stamped into them next to a stylized "F" above the driver's side parking light.
Later ones, including my NOS grill, have just the date stamped in them. I bought my grill from a local Ford dealer in the mid-nineties, I don't know when they made the change.
Ford used plastic bags for the grills for a short period of time. They found out plastic bags don't ship very well.
And the area behind the "FORD" on the grill should be painted black.
