Thanks all. Lots to think about on this one and the thought for the wife and I is to go with this F150
Do plan to spend a few dollars to make the truck as capable as possible. Upgrading the tires to LT variants, installing a good WD hitch, and installing airbags can all make huge improvements.
The almost 80 mile commute would be crazy in fuel. It can get painful in the car and it gets 20-25 MPG.
Ha. My daily round-trip is about 86 miles round-trip, always in my F150.
Only slightly off topic, but for all you guys "adjusting" the tongue weight by moving cargo around, make sure you don't lower your tongue wieght too much. Myself, I'd rather have a little extra on the hitch, it makes for better towing stability, until you get so much that your front wheels start to lift.
As mentioned, run your loaded rig over a proper scole at a truck stop, and play around with cargo and WD hitch a bit until you know where you are at. There's a CAT scale near me, and there's probably one near you too. Best money you'll ever spend.
