I checked for broken manifold studs on my 2003 f250 with v10 and found two on top near the firewall on the driver's side. There is audible ticking to be heard yet. How soon should i get this fixed?
I'd say as soon as you can fit it in the budget, it's only going to get worse.
I've done these before and they are not fun. Just because you see two broken doesn't mean that's all you will have to fix, usually more break when you try to remove the manifold.
I helped a buddy of mine do his and we ground off the nuts first then slide the manifold off so there was material to use when removing the studs. Also used a small propane torch to heat up around all the studs sticking out of the heads and they removed a lot easier.
I did my own on my 5.4 I used the Irwin bolt extractor kits, noth of them, there are two. I havent used them since come to think of it lol That was 2 years ago.
Best tool I had at my disposal was a can of PB Blaster and a short (4in) pipe wrench. Iwould soak my studs and nuts for a week leading up to the change in manifold.
