If engine is bellow 25°C it will be necessary, especially if engine has low compression or not Tuned Up.

always needs choke to start????... help please

I had this problem also with my truck and its 1v carter. The only solution i found was swapping on a new one, and wiring up the electric part of the choke. It starts every time now, and i don't have to climb under the hood to fiddle with it. Before i was having to do this every time i started the truck, if it had gone a few hours between starts.

Now its just nothing pat the gas twice, touch the key and go.

Hope that helped you. If you do need to wire your elec choke up, it should be connected either directly to the S terminal on your alternator, or into the S lead of your voltage regulator. If they were still external on your model of truck.
