help replacing bed
My son has a F350, loaned the truck to a friend and he put a huge dent in the drivers side of the bed. Both are in the Marine wounded warrior program in camp lejuene, NC and though insurance doesn't cover it, he doesn't want to make his friend pay to fix it.
I can't afford to send it to a shop for repair. I want to replace the bed or weld-in a new drivers side exterior panel as the rest of the bed seems fine. been looking at craigslist, nothing readily available. do you have any ideas where I can buy a used long bed or can I just buy the exterior panel? I'm no pro, but I've welded in body panels before. I figure no matter what, I'll end up having to paint it silver myself anyway to save money.
thanks for advice

I purchased my 2000 F250 with a bed that was heavily damaged from hard use. I found a shop here in Seattle that builds service bodies for landscapers. They had a rack full of take off beds to choose from. I found other beds in N Dakota and CA but local was the smart choice of course. The new 2012 F350 bed was a direct bolt on fit with exception of harness plug, and white paint was a spot on match (Amazing). So new bed with lights, tailgate, bumper, installed for $1400. That shop had others lower in price but I wanted the best one they had. In perspective just the new tailgate with paint was close to $700! Any bed from 99 to 2012 F250/350 should be a direct fit if this is your model style. I suggest checking around for those types of companies near your location. Second guess would be wrecking yards. I hope that helped some.

Every salvage yard I've seen in recent years has their database tied into Car-Part. By completing one search form you are searching through almost every salvage yard in the nation.
I just did a quick search and there are HUNDREDS of pickup beds listed. You should find what you need there.
