Dp tuner claims the gtp38r turbo is drop in for a 7.3, now does that mean it just "drops in" for both NBS and OBS? I wouldn't have to change manifolds or pedestal or anything? Picture looks similar styling as the stock turbo, but what about obs trucks? Haven't seen the turbos enough on NBS trucks to see how much of the mounting is the same as an obs. Sorry if I'm bringing up an old post, don't have tons of time to search the internet. Also, if anybody has one on their truck are they good? Just annoyed by the underpowered factory turbo.
The 38r can be used on an OBS but you need the NBS collector, up-pipes, drivers side exhaust manifold, and a few other things I'm sure I'm missing. As for the "underpowered factory turbo", here's the issue. Its not the turbo that is holding you back. In fact, the stock turbo can survive/support 325-350+ horsepower. The limiting factor as for power is the injectors. They just can't flow enough fuel to make bigger power, hence the reason many upgrade to larger injectors. The GTP38r is a great turbo though.
I figured if it was as simple swapping the factory for the 38r I would just do the turbo instead of having to pay someone to do injectors, but since there's so many extra expenses other than the turbo itself I will just stick with injectors. Plus the 38r sounds amazing. Stage ones with factory turbo it is then.
