I have a 98 and a 99 ranger. The airbag went off in the 98 so I replaced it with the airbag from the 99. Now the 98 will not start unless it's plugged into an auto scanner and as soon as I remove the scanner it stalls out. There's also a clicking noise when the key is on. Is there a relay or something that could be screwed up? Anybody know what's wrong with it?
I was pulling into my driveway and it deployed not really sure why it went off. The 98 is an xlt 2wd 4 cylinder 5 speed 2.5 Manuel. The 99 is 2wd 4 cylinder 5 speed 2.5 manuel
OK, kinda sounds like the vehicle has been messed with, so which air bag went off, drivers or passenger side???? Do all system warning lights light up for their self test at KOEO, before you crank the engine????
Any other warning lights on, like the CEL, or PATS???? If so, have the vehicles controllers scanned with a high end scantool that can access & read all of the vehicles controllers & post All trouble code Numbers, as they can offer up good trouble shooting clues.
EDIT: If you don't have, or can't come by a high end scantool that can querry more than the engine computer, maybe consider investing in an inexpensive ELM327 scantool & freeware like listed here, so that you can scan all of the vehicles controllers, including the Body & SRS/air bag controllers for trouble codes & that way maybe be able to come up with ssome good trouble shooting clues on what best to look at or do next. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-scantool.html
