I may have brought this up before, but my injection system is getting screwy. Shucks, it's original to the truck. I found this post and the guy has some of the same symptoms as mine, but I'll add that after driving for a while, the engine will out of the blue, start clattering bad, lose all power, blow black smoke, and the go pedal gets really stiff and tight. I traced it to the timing lever on the IP. Moving it around would quiet it down a little. Just wondering what y'all think on what this guy did buy taking the top off the IP. Also running straight ATF in the IP. Like the post said, when my engine's cold and with the timing advance solenoid on, it will act weird until about 5 min, then it's fine. what happens sometimes is it will die if you run the RPMs up and then let off completely. other times it will suddenly lurch forward and clatter at a certain RPM when accelerating with the engine high idle on. When you come to a stop, the RPM stays half way up and won't come down until that magical 5 min has passed and it will snap out of it. What's the opinion here? https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...gine-dies.html
My opinion. Get a new pump. If it's original to the truck as you say. It's about dead. You will be amazed what a new pump and injectors will do to these engines. And by new I mean rebuild because there are no "new" pumps.
I hear ya man, but at $570 from R&D IDI performance, that's out of the pocket book for now. The reason I asked is to see if I can stretch its life just a little more. The truck runs strong, but it will act up every now and then. What's a good rebuild place? Anyone ever deal with R&D?
