So I am building a flareside f100 with a 331 and crown vic front suspension.
I bought a 1961 Flareside but the cab was in too bad of shape so I ended up stripping it and scrapping it.
Then I came across a great deal on a 1964 Longbed that was really too nice to tear apart but I ended up doing that anyway.
I am going to use the 1964 cab on the 1961 frame.
So the reason for posting is, I have noticed that my cab doesn't sit right on the '61 frame. It seems the cab mounts on the frame are different. Before I got rid of the long bed frame, I did cut off the cab mounts and the rears seem to be higher.
However, everything I read on the web says that frames from 61-64 are all the same. Has anyone else run into this issue?
Right now my plan is to just put a spacer on the back mounts and get longer bolts. But I would like to know the factory measurements if possible.
Thanks in advance and here is where the project is at this time. Just finished mounting the CV front end. Motor is built and my next step will be getting it in the frame and mocking up the motor mounts.
(BTW, I am not the most experienced welder. But I'm working on it.)
The cab mounts are easily adjustable by adding shims under the rubbers or squeezing the rubbers a bit more in front than in the rear. I see the fender to door gap looks really nice. I'd wait until the bed is mounted and then park it on a level floor and see how it looks. Nice work by the way.
Yeah, the door gaps do look pretty good for a cab that was just slung around and dropped onto the frame with a front end loader. I don't think the fenders have ever been separated from the cab so I have left them alone. I guess that little bit of height difference won't really cause any big problems.
I just would prefer to get it mounted on there properly for when I start making brake lines and setting up the steering
Well guys, sorry I haven't replied sooner but two days ago I came down with what I believe to be strep throat. I feel terrible even sitting at this computer so I will make this short and sweet and get more into detail later.
I am in Shelby NC.
Welder is a Hobart 110 hobby welder that I am running flux core wire (no gas)
Axle is explorer 8.8 with all the goodies. And yes its way too narrow compared to the CV front end but I plan to throw some wheels with a ton of dish back there to help even it out.
Wow! The reason I ask is it appears from your picture the front wheel lines up perfectly in the wheel well. Either other folks are doing it for engine clearance on the firewall or you just got it perfectly right. Rock on. I am admiring your work. Please keep sending pics.
