93 Explorer HELP!!!!
Here's the problem.... my Explorer runs great but the past few days my Tach drops to zero, and within minutes I lose power and my check engine light comes on. I usually pull off the road and wait a minute or two and then everything is back to normal and I'm on the road again. It never stalls but after this problem, the Tach usually stays right on zero until I turn it off. But right before I lose power and the check engine light comes on, the Tach always drops!
My boyfriend is Mister Know-it-all and doesn't want me to take it to the garage to be checked so I'm turning to all of you! HELP!!!!!!
Other components involved are the coil pack and the variable reluctance sensor (Crank position sensor) located on the front of engine near crankshaft harmonic balancer.
You really need to pull the stored code set when engine dies and also run the self tests to narrow down the fault before you go replacing expensive parts. I know the Edis module runs around $150 and the coil pack is around $60. Crank sensor should not be too expensive though.
If you need, I can post some links for additional info on pulling codes and static tests of some of the engine sensors.
