I'm getting a '02 250 7.3 in a couple days and I need to know what to do for warming engine block and such things like that so that way I will know what to do in 30 to 10 degree weather
New to diesels so any advice will help most likely , thank you.
You are in Georgia? I don't think there is much you need to do to prep for cold weather. I don't plug my block heater in until the temp gets below 10 degrees. Just make sure your glow plug system is in good working order, and use some anti-gel fuel additive in the colder parts of the winter. And keep your oil changes to 5k miles or less.
I would plug it up at night especially with the cool temps we have been having recently. That engine oil would appreciate it being as warm as possible at start up on these cold mornings. I know I like a warm cup of java to help me out.
Start looking over all the recent threads on cold weather, there are a lot lately. It should have a plug in block heater, glow plugs will stay on well after the wait to start light goes out(wait 30-45 seconds before starting), I like the white bottle Diesel Kleen fuel additive for winter, a good quality 5-40(diesel rated) synthetic oil all help.
Battery Cables, almost always First and Foremost, EVERY YEAR check them.
Next, if your cables are good, your batteries are good, and you have a problem starting, check your glow plugs.
Last, ( Again, my list ) injectors, if you have problem injectors you will have cold start problems.
Now, for a quick pick me up, or as a "good thing to do" switch to full synthetic. Your batteries are working hard enough heating glow plugs, and the Air intake. If you can put synthetic in your oil pan, the starter will not be working so hard to turn over that oil goo (exaggerated) while heating up all the other fun stuff.
Good Luck, have fun, and stay away from this site, it cost way to much money in mods to your truck, you make life long friends, you will drive great distances to meet them, and your left with an empty feeling if you are off the forum for longer then a day
