My 2002 explorer has a strange noise I think that's coming from the tranny. I have 3,000 miles left under warranty and have brought it to RSM Ford 3 times to fix, but they don't know what is wrong. When the tranny is engaged, it makes more noise. Also, there is a 'chirp' sound that happens every 20 seconds they told me was the air cycling on/off, but it only does it when the tranny is engaged. ???? any other people have similar problems??
If it only happens when the trans is in gear, I would suspect the trans pump, or maybe even your FEAD belt is getting cyclic tension/compression pulses and is slipping on your pulleys. What shape is the belt in?
My explorer has 31,000 miles on it so I would assume the belt would be okay. I had my neighbor Mike w/ Ryan's transmission listen to it last night and he seemed to think the torque converter?? was about to fall apart. Now I have to convince the Ford dealership to fix it while still in warranty....
must be something up with these 2002 explorers...I am currently waiting for a letter telling me my explorer is going to be replaced or not, i went through the dispute board.
How do I get to the dispute board? Ford Corp is telling me that I'm on my own (out of warranty). You pay $34,000 for a new vehicle so that you don't have to go thru repairs etc., but then you get a LEMON. Frustrating....
