OK, here's the deal.
1994 XLT 4WD, 104K on it.
I posted before about this problem, but it seems to be a tad different.
I was having probs a few months ago where it would start, rpms would flutter, it'd sputter and die.
Fuel filter, air filter, plugs, and wires were replaced. Fuel injector given, seemed ok.
the guys here at FTE said to check the fuel pump and relay. Well, then after I always turned the key to hear the fuel pump before I started the car.
So, today I cleaned the IAC, it started fine afterward. No prob. Then, 20min later I go to move the car, and it doesn't start. Same symptoms. EXCEPT now, I don't hear the fuel pump. The inertia switch is NOT tripped. I switched the fuel pump relay out for the AC one, since its cold and I dont need it right now, and still no fuel pump.
Any suggestions, ways to check the fuel pump before I lay down $ to replace it?
Well, I was screwing with it, put the AC relay and fuel pump relays back in their respective places. And it worked. I heard the fuel pump, the car ran.
So, I'll replace the both of them tomorrow when I go to the store.
Anything else to check?
Just for future reference, how do I jumper across the relay and inertia switch?
There are two pins for the coil and two for the contacts. One of the relay socket contact pins is connected to the battery via the fuse and should have power on it all the time. The other switched pin goes to the pump via the inertia switch. With an ohm meter you should measure a very low resistance. I found you can jumper these two pins with a wire that has crimp terminals on the end. Many of the loop, spade and U wire terminals fit into the socket and fuse connectors. Sometimes the socket connector is corroded or is no longer retained in the plastic making a bad connection.
