transfercase shift linkage

transfercase shift linkage
Hi my pal has a 94 f 350 zf 5 speed and a 1356 transfercase. The linkage that controls the tcase is broken. Well long story short we went all over and looked at a lot of junk yards and could not find one. The only one I did find was for a 1989. This truck was also 5 speed and 1356 truck. But that linkage/shift control lever is different all together. It is steet and my pals is aluminum. Was wondering if the steel one ofg the 1989 truck would work and bolt on to my buddys 94? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
