i am rebuilding my grandad's '85 swb that he ordered from the factory. i had someone working on it that lost a rubber strip / gasket (among other things). it is located along the top of the firewall and under the hood directly in front of the cowling where the windshield wipers are located. my questions are these.....what is that part called and where the heck can i find a replacement? all the ones i have found in the junkyard are in poor condition. any help would be appreciated.
These all harden up & disintegrate. They channel water across to the sides of the hood, then down......otherwise it spills down onto the aircleaner, solenoids etc.
WOW! Thanks for the fast reply! You sure made that frustrating deal go away fast. I really appreciate it.

While we're talking about hoods, why does mine "flap" in the center at idle, and move on the sides at highway speeds. Are these hoods made of aluminum or really thin steel? Seems the center where the hood latch is, is where it's sufficiently held down. The rest (sides and center) seem to flutter in the wind.

Shut the hood and then grab the front of it with your hands and try to move it up and down. If it moves, you need to either adjust the latch, or the little bumpers on each front corner mounted to the radiator support. If you can pull up on the hood and it looks right with the fenders, then you can extend the rubber bumpers. If you can push down on the hood and it looks right, then you can loosen and lower the latch a little bit.
If you can't move the hood by hand, then it's probably the glue has broken loose under the supports in the hood. The hood is very thin, but they have support braces underneath the hood, and they used some sort of sealer/glue to attach the thin metal to the braces. Over time this stuff gets hard and lets loose. Just find something to glue it back together if that's your problem.
