I was thinking about pulling mine and looking at it to see if I could maybe cut off the cooler and weld the holes shut but I want know if that will work with the lower hose that you have to have.
Found one!

I didn't check to see if Ford still offers them. An o-ring should be easy to match up at the parts store.
I had to delete the coolers on a fleet of John Deere engines and we just used the o-ring off the old filter and that worked just fine.
See! When everyone pitches in, a solution will be found!
Yeah, now we just need to find an unlimited supply of these so we can rid every 460 of these stupid oil coolers! It seems there's only a few available though. I might be able to make some good money off these if i hit the junk yards.
My 89 has an external engine oil cooler mounted beside the trans cooler in front of the radiator. Looks like it would be easy to convert to. I have a 94 I am parting out that is set up like yours. When that engine gets rebuilt for my 89, I will use the 89 cooler setup. I also have a remote mount double filter setup to go on it, but haven't found the right spot to put it yet. Any ideas?

After looking, it seems Ford does still offer the crappy cooler that the 90s trucks have, for an easy $1500(my local dealer has one for just $1300!) a bit ridiculous in my opinion. I can't find the adapter for the older trucks from Ford, unfortunately. Darn.
