I have a 92 f150 with 4.9, 3.08 gear and e4od. While I'm driving around town at about 45mph my truck is constantly going in and out of overdrive. As soon as I touch the pedal it kicks down to 3rd. I figured the reason for this was the rear gearing but I would like to know what everyone else thought. Also would it be a go idea to drive with od off?
its because around 45mph is exactly where an od tranny is SUPPOSED to kick in and out.
overdrive is for the highway, it should be locked out in town and when carrying a load.
your supposed to lock it out if she hunts like that.with the diesels and our 3.55 or 4.10 gearing you can't even purposely make them hunt like this.
with a 300 and 3.08's there isn't any wonder you'd have to lock her out to keep from gear hunting while driving in the 45-50mph range.if your not running up and down the hwy (that setup would be killer out there -55-65mph = great economy)
then you might want to just head to your local salvage yard and swap out rear axles to one with 3.55's.you'll be able to drive the truck with it not wanting to hunt on you in your 45-50mph daily driving.will be a much more enjoyable running truck for around town driving.
