I recently blew my sub in the rear of my 98 expy and i wish to purchase a new one. I am on a limited budget so i would like to use the existing enclosure. This is my first expy so i am very new to the components they have. I belive there is a stock amp in there. Also if there is can i keep that one and just change out the sub? Please leave any suggestion of what kinda sub i should use.
Most Basic 8" subs will fit. The Audiobahn, and the Kicker Solo Baric will not, and the Sony Xplode will fit if the box is modified. If the sub is the basic round design, and the magnet is not huge, it should fit fine.
Look at the pics!
I recently replaced the subwoofer in the back of my 98'EB with a kenwood KFCW2005 sub. THe speaker fit without modification and had the best efficiency rating of any I checked (db/1 watt/1 meter). It was also resonably priced. This is important as the amplifier in back is not very powerful and a non efficient speaker will result in lower subwoofer volume than the stock speaker.
Well a MTX 8" will not fit either. I put in a new 5 channel amp and a new Pioneer in dash. I was looking for a way to put in a better sub. Is there any ideas you guys could offer. I dont want an extra box in the truck. The ac unit is on one side.
MTX makes a subwoofer kit for the expedition. It changes out the whole box and alows you to use a 10" sub of your choice. Since you have a five channel amp this should be no problem. I am currently running 2 punch 150's sounds awesome. I switched out the MTX that came with it (blew it out) and put in a 10" kicker. The only issue you will have is that the woofer will hit the grill. Just add some thick foam around the edges so that it does not hit. It will fit from 1999 to 2002 expeditions. Very simple install and it sounds like a big box yet it is hidden.
