hi everyone im new to the site and new to diesel. I just got a 02 f250 7.3 lariat crew cab 255000 miles on her with 35'' ties. first day I got her the alternator failed on me. and found the booster leaking just replaced that yesterday. Hoping you guys could give me good tips and what I could do to her. also how cold should it be for me to plug her in. thank you for in info.
Congrats on the new truck! The issues you will run into will really depend on what the previous owner has or has not done. The 7.3 will run forever if taken care of but the rest of the truck (especially the front suspension/drive train) will take some TLC.
As you notice issues get on here and do some research. Most times you can figure out what is going on and make the repair yourself for a fraction of the cost even if you aren't familiar with diesels. Upgrades and such really depend on much money you want to spend and your skill level.
Ford claims you shouldn't have to plug the 7.3 in until around -10. I haven't heard on anyone having good luck going that low. I plug in anything below 30degrees. I can go down into the single digits but it requires a lot of cranking and multiple tries which in my opinion is pretty hard on the batteries and starter if it is your daily driver.
Test your glow plugs, tighten your intercooler boots, check your air filter cover for fit (broken clips) and to toss out any K+N filter elements found therein ;-).
Also, hang out in the 7.3 forum for much more info.
