Wondering if the bed on my F550 is too long for a gooseneck.I measured it at 62 inches from center of axle to rear of bed and around 79 from center of bed over over axle to the corner.
Depends entirely on the particular trailer - they vary quite a bit. I don't think there's really a standard length neck/nose. Also going to depend some on the type of trailer you're looking for - horse/stock trailers might be a little more iffy, flatbeds and dump trailers tend to have a little longer neck. I believe if you shop for trailers with that in mind, you shouldn't have much trouble finding one that'll work for you. But, I sure wouldn't run out and buy the first good deal you find without taking along your tape measure.
Also, I see a lot of F350-550 flatbeds with the hitches behind the axle. Often they have welders, compressors, tool boxes on the front that force the hitches to be farther back. I'm not saying I'd recommend it or not, I just don't have any personal experience with it. But with that heavy of a truck, it's probably doable, especially with lighter loads.
Yep,Mine has a compressor up front and boxes on the side(top and bottom).Being I will be hauling some heavy stuff(Semi tractors,Military 6x6s,etc) behind the axle wouldn't be the best idea.Gonna have to go shopping.Push come to shove I can find a local metal melter and have the bed messaged.I think the overall length would be fine but the corners will be cutting it close.
