Right, so now it's time to get into the audio part. I'm gonna get a 10"sub and an amp to put behind my seat of my '94 F-150. I went to look at subs today and found many. I found Kicker, Rockford and MTX, also Pioneer and (Jensen and Sony = Crap)
Which ones are the best for the money? Budget is $400 (CAN).
I'm not really into that much base, I listen to all music - country, rock, alittle hip hop, and some oldies rock (ACDC, Led Zepplin - everyone loves that stuff man).
So I was thinking on getting something small like a 10", in a box behind the seat. Is Kicker a good sub? I know MTX is good because I've heard them. Too expensive though. $179.00 (CAN) for a 10"! Kind of alot. Plus you have to buy wiring and a box and all that happy stuff.
Also what is a good amp?
I have like $400 (CAN) to spend. I might check out ebay. They might have some good deals. I checking out some more really soon, so I need to know quick. Thanks guys and gals.
Oh, one more thing. Is this a good deal - 200 Watt Rockford Amp, Rockford Sub (don't know what watts), Wiring and box - $600 (CAN) Tax included. (at future shop) What do you think?
I kinda want to stay away from shipping, because stuff can happen. Um, can anyone just tell me what the good subs and amps are, so I can buy them where I live? We have audio stores here, so just tell me what's the best.
Some online dealers insure their subs when they ship them (Elemental Designs not only insures them, they show you on their website how they pack them in the box...nearly impossible to damage in transit). A list of subs you can buy locally, that are within your budget:
JL 10W3v2 (or the older W3)
Alpine Type R
Infinity Perfect
Kicker Comp VR
In that order. You really are missing out on some killer deals by not buying online. Any of those 4 drivers listed above would sound great in a small sealed box with around 400ish watts.
Well I'm not sure what the cost are in Canada, but here in the states eBay is way cheaper than the stores. I recomend it highly!
look around and you can get some good stuff. Alot of guys here are runnig Infinity Subs that are good. I'm running 2 8" kicker compVR's I found for $88 for the pair. They wanted $88 a piece on crutchfield.com. I bought a pair of Kicker Comp VR 10's first before I found out I didn't have room for them for $110.
Now I'm thinking about removing my rear seat and making one big a$$ box! But the point is you can bargain shop on eBay and piece together a great system for less ca$h.
Well it's done. I bought
-1 10" Kicker Comp VR sub
-1 Kicker KX 150.4 4 channel amp
-1 sub box that could hold two 10's if I wanted
-and the wiring.
*all this stuff was brand new in the store as of yesterday!
All this for $600 (CAN). I got a deal because I know the guy that works at the store and he's the manager. So we got a good deal. It was over $1000 originally.
So I'm pretty excited to get it in and hear what it sounds like. It'll be sweet!
well i dont agree with the whole "(Jensen and Sony = Crap)" I have two JENSON 10's with 2 12's and a 18" RF punch ran by a 600 watt JENSON amp and i have found no problems with any of it!
But MTX and RF speakers are good along with there amps but i have put my stereo together for about $150 i also have an amp that runs my door speakers hooked up to crossovers so no bass can go to them i custom built my box for the 2 12's and the 2 10's soi can put them under my back seat in my EX CAB truck
I have seen people that diss cheap speakers and then go buy expensive one and go to competions and the cheap speakers blow them away! it all boils down to where you put the speakers, the angle of the speakers, how much cubic ft. in the box they are in and the cubic ft in the car or truck it self everything plays a factor on the other!
that's all good, but what if it breaks. If something goes wrong then all that money was wasted. If you just do it right the first time, then you'll have no problems and the sound will definetly be better.
well thats all true but i so far havent had any trouble and i'm not saying i wont have any but thats the thing about stereos and equip. you buy what you pay for but even the expensive things can break like cheap things! And if my jenson stuff does break i'll just up grade! i bought evrything 2nd hand so everything i bought was cheaper then buying new and i like the way it all sounds and havent ran into any trouble and the day i do it will be upgrade time!
