need advice on disc brakes
I'm looking to buy a set of disc brake spindles that the owner says will fit my 71 f-100. He does not know what year truck they came off of. Should there be a ford part number on these somewhere? He couldn't find one. I would feel a lot better about shelling out the coin if I knew what year they were from.
Thanks!
Thanks!

If your doing a dics brake swap you will need more then the spindles. It's better and safer to get everything from a donor truck at the J/K or if you can buy a donor. If you have room and money for a donor you can sell parts and or scrap out old truck to cut costs. Mixing parts when doing dics brake swap is not recommended.

yeah, unfortunately there are no donor trucks to be had around here. I was hoping those spindles would work, I was under the assumption that 73' spindles would work, but I guess i'll just keep waiting for something else to show up. I sure hope I can find something by spring. in the meantime I better read up on the swap again.

"If you're using '75-'79 spindles, use '75-'79 I-beams and kingpins
If you're using '68-'74 spindles, use '68-'74 I-beams and kingpins"
If you really want ready to bolt-in discs, an option would be Master Power's kit: 1969 Ford F100 Front Disc Brake Conversion Kit - Legend Series
$1400 is major bucks though... with patience, could probably get in touch with a member outta NC, VA, PA, or SC that can ship some takeoffs to ya. I would undertake the endeavor but I'm over here on the leftist coast and shipping would likely be cost prohibitive. A spindle is relatively heavy.
You do the math using Rock Auto for a 73/74 F100:
- Rotors with hub & studs - Raybestos PN 6032 ... $37.79 each x2
- Caliper, left with hardware kit- A-1 CARDONE PN 184034S ...$21.11
- Caliper, right with hardware kit- A-1 CARDONE PN 184033S ...$21.11
- Brake hose, Left - Raybestos PN BH36749 ... $5.35
- Brake hose, Right - Raybestos PN 4536748 ... $7.55
- Pads - Raybestos semi-metallic - PN PGD50R ...$19.03 set
- Bearing & Race, Outer - Timken PN SET12 ... $5.07 each x2
- Bearing & Race, Inner - Timken PN SET13 .. $5.73 x2
- Dust cap, Dorman - PN 618503 ... $1.60 each x2
- Spindle, Nut & hardware - Dorman PN 615172 ... $1.85 each x2
- Kingpin w/ Metal Bushings, MOOG PN 8524B010 ... $49.79 set
- Kingpin machine work... about $100
Post up the total.

Early, You posted that you needed advice, but it reads to me that you aren't willing to accept it.
There is way more to disc brakes than spindles. You don't go to night clubs looking for a prayer group, or a chevy site looking for Ford truck info.
You need to make a plan then start working the plan. 3-5 years from now when you need a part you need to know what to ask for. Find a donor in the next 3 months, it's tooo cold to be out swapping parts in Jan.
Look for and buy a donor 73-76 for FE 360/390 engine, 73-79 for I-6/302 engine that has the tranny like you have or want to end up with.
My forgetter works overtime, but I know about everything under the chassis of my 66 uses parts for a 76.

ah John, yes I posted looking for advice, and I got it from Ford Six thank you. I know there is more to disc brakes than spindles, I've read the articles, then I got someone on here selling these parts , and tells me they will fit my truck, but yet can't confirm what parts they are from. and John it's not like I can go on CR here and buy a donor truck tomorrow, they are not plentiful here. I have a plan... find the parts. So John youre also telling me i'm in the wrong place looking for help? you can try beating me up on here all you want, i'll still gonna keep asking advice if I want to, but I don't need the derogatory crap. you think I don't want the advice because I agreed I prolly shouldn't buy those spindles?

I believe that you are in Toledo Ohio? I looked there on CLS and there where some parts from trucks years you are looking for. Ok not the disc set but don't be afraid to contact people posting to see if they do have the set up. Others on forum have done this and got lucky maybe you can. Ok you have probably though of this but anyway post an ad on CLS maybe you can get lucky there!

I just looked at my drum brake spindles, and there is a very easy to read part number right on the top. So I guess i'll pass on this other guys spindles cause he can't provide a part number, and the general concensus is to try and get the I-beams along with the spindles. Thanks to those who offered advice!
