On the other hand, if the dealership hasn't made their sales numbers, it isn't uncommon for them to take sales from the first couple days of the next month and push them back into the previous month. We used to do it several times a year.

I doubt it. Trucks are where they make their money. They discount many small cars below cost to meet CAFE and make up the cost on trucks.

i would never put a military recruitment officer in the same category as a car salesman or politician.

99 % of recruitment officers have done their time overseas, and know what it is like.

i only deal with one dealership, and i know the owner . i wal in his office, tell him what i want and he finds it.
tells me a price and if i like it i buy it.
then the salesmen have fits because the price is way lower than they feel it should be and try to jack it up with add ons.
but i always walk out with the price agreed to with the owner.
that is how i got my 99 crown vic 2 years old with 16,000 miles on it for $8500
all the sales staff said no way, there had to be a mistake because the price on the car was $14,500.
the car was not even in the system so there is no way they could find that price on it.
they just wanted to bump the price to look good.
now when i look for a car i go to the senior salesman and ask for whatever. if they have it he then calls the owner for me and we negotiate a price on speaker phone.
that is how i got the Milan for my mother. they gave me $5500 as trade for the 97 grand marquis, and i paid $11,500 plus the GM for the milan.

If I bought a new truck in July and the dealership reported it sold in June – then the warranty would be activated prior to my taking ownership – the inspection runs from the month it was sold/registered so instead of my inspection expiring 4 years down the road in July – it expires in June. The floor plan – manufacturer would want to be paid for the vehicle based upon when it is being reported to have been sold. I never heard of such a thing – checks – paper work - vehicle insurance so many things have to be completed fraudulently.

If you say YOU did that – there is no reason for me to not believe you – just sounds completely off the wall.

I only reported my experience – after I retired from my first career – I tried selling cars & trucks for a while – just not for me – not in my nature to be dishonest or purposely try to screw people.

These were my experiences - I am sure others have had their own different experiences.

I did see it happen many times. It doesn't affect the warranty; that's based on the in-service date, which coincides with the delivery date or the date the dealer put the vehicle into demo service if it was a demo unit.

actually, warranty starts at date of delivery to customer, not date of sale.

yes I agree - I was using the two interchangeably - around my parts - the sale documents are produced the day of the delivery - either way if a dealer sells & delivers you a vehicle in July - it is difficult to then lie to the manufacturer that the vehicle was sold/delivered in June in order to meet the June quota to receive a bonus. To get the bonus the vehicle has to be sold - delivered - gone - any word you choose to use. Ya can't then back date the date because if you do it will affect the warranty - the amount paid for the floor plan - insurance - etc.

My 2 cents

In my experience most dealers are not impressed with paying for a vehicle with cash. Many manufacturer incentives require you finance with them. The last truck I bought I got an extra $3750 if I used Ford Motor Credit.

They are equally unimpressed with large down payments. Once you are approved for the credit, the dealer gets their money the day you sign the papers.

IMO if it's a smoking deal you're really after, buy a left over. I bought a brand new 2012 that stickered for $63,940 for $52,300. 2013's and 2014's were in the lot and I could not get them to move anymore then about 5K.
Do a little research on the model year. In the case of a SD, 2011 was first model, 2013 and 2014's are basically the same truck. So saving almost 12K for virtually the same hardware with the same warranty was an easy choice for me.

So the OP's question as to only making $200 on a vehicle? Maybe on vehicles they NEED to move. Some people actually just go in and pay sticker minus any published incentive. Certainly the dealership makes more than $200 in this case.

They hate cash deals Bobby. Even if theyre not placing the loan with Ford motor credit, they pick up a piece on the front end of the deal on bank or finance company credit.
The only dealer benefit for cash deals is in knowing the deal will close, otherwise it amounts to another place they can't make money.
