Just some FYI. '04 PSD, blue spring upgrade, EGR delete, Shell ELC, coolant filter, MBRP 4'' turbo back, and an Edge CS. This winter my truck started acting up with white smoke, loosing coolant, and blowing cold. Temps were going from 169-189. 5 degree separation from ECT/EOT. All added up from hours of reading it was time to blow the dust off the total solutions kit I scored 2 years ago. I found a local mechanic here in Wasilla ak that is doing it all for me under $3k. Up here the other shops were mad that I purchased my own kit on sale and add in a military discount, so they wanted an extra money to do the work($5,500). The only problem now though is I get a call I need a new y-pipe, IPR with pig tail. It just hurts after the holidays to keep adding up the parts. At least my guy is fixing for free and using his new supply while I get my parts for cheaper to replace. Anyways happy new year and thanks for reading.

 

it sounds like the other shops knew you would probably need other parts and were trying to be close with the estimate..
most spops would rather be over than under on an estimate

Both those other shops wanted more money on top of the initial quote for any other parts that were in need of repair. My main reason was not to bash those shops but there is a new guy out in the valley that is charge ing a lot less for labor. Also he will use your parts you bring in. Being a vet you can score huge savings with your discount at any on-line vendor.

Sounds like he Pulled the IPR and Broke the screen and he is covering his A$$
