mine works most of the time, but intermittently the voice commands will fail to find a song I know is on my USB drive, but I can see clearly on the menu. It is really bad if you have the fan on high or the sunroof open...distorts the voice.
Generally speaking, it is better than not having any sync, but the technology is poor and was probably released too early with insufficient testing.
does anyone who has the sync feature have issues with it understanding you or playing what you want it to play? i have 2009
Hi derek4343,
I can help you with this. Which kind of device are you using to play your music, USB thumbdrive or MP3 player? Big-Red-Lariat is correct about using your blowers and A/C, which can increase microphone distortion inside the cab. Try adjusting your climate controls to see if this might be a factor.
Today I loaded an album by Al Stewart, then I say "Play Artist Al Stewart", and it plays Rod Stewart...does Al really sound like Rod? Bottom line is it has at least half a brain.
;-)
I've had a few issues with my Sync also. There have been several times where I can't even get the phone and Sync to connect (With Bluetooth). But it seems to work better if I have the truck running for several minutes (Like letting a computer boot up) before I even try. And I have had times where Sycn just doesn't seam to understand me. I don't even try with the windows down, of fan motor blowing hard.
Yes, command recognition can be very annoying at times. I've found a handful of key words and commands it understands consistently and I don't venture much beyond that any more. Half the time I have to dial directly from my phone instead of SYNC.
Lately I've had problem with the phone not connecting while I drive. I frequently have to manually connect bluetooth because it is not happening automatically. A few times I've had USB randomly disconnect from iPod while playing music. All told, I have fewer problems than many people.

Hi ubereal2,
If the connection lag seems to get worse, try performing a clean pairing:

Hello QwkTrip,
Have you tried soft resetting your phone? Sometimes the Bluetooth signal from your chip can degrade in strength over time. A soft reset can be performed by removing the battery for about three minutes, then reconnecting with SYNC. A clean pairing, as I've suggested above, can also improve your overall Bluetooth connection and voice recognition accuracy (via the master reset).
Thanks for the hints. I have a habit of removing battery from phone occasionally because it seems to increase battery life. I guess I've been unintentionally doing soft resets as well. I've never done a master reset of SYNC. I will try that.
What do you think could be causing the iPod to suddenly not be recognized by the USB port? For example, I will be driving down the road listening to music for the last several hours and all of a sudden SYNC doesn't think anything is connected to USB. In best case scenario I have to reboot the iPod and it works again. In worst scenario it won't work until after truck key switch is cycled off and on again. I use the same iPod in a docking station with the home stereo and it has never unintentionally disconnected.
I had to learn how to give the correct command too. And still learning.
I tried the download to a thumb drive and do the update myself. But I'm not much of a computer person, and it is working. So I guess I'll leave it alone.
