Introduction - Australia

Hi everyone, first off would like to introduce myself, Recently purchased a 1979 F100 4x4 LWB. Few photos are here: Flickr: Nathaniel.W's Photostream
Yes its RHD as I hail from that little country called Australia

Its the first 4x4 I have owned having previously owned: Bagged 89 Hilux, R32 Nissan Skyline GTS-T and currently a 'Stance' 2008 Lexus IS 250.

Now have plenty of ideas for her but come on who doesn't! Just a matter of time and money. Been doing as much research on here as I can but still have a few questions which I will post in another thread shortly

Firstly I want to turn it into a serious 4x4 to travel around Australia in.

Info I know off so far.

302 V8
Think its a NP205 transfer case
Unsure on my diffs or the ratio (Think 4.11 gears).
33/12.5/R15
No power steering

She needs a few things done to be considered Legal to drive over here. Being old few things are shot: shocks, muffler, clutch on the way out, considerable rust etc.
Looking at/needs 4'' Lift, Zf5 conversion, Full exhaust inc Headers, Drum to disc conversion. New rims with 35's. Changing to 4.56 or 4.88 gearing. New radiator with dual fans, new alternator, oh and window wiper system fitted!

Thats all thats in the works for now.

Nathaniel

That truck appears to have the canted valve heads. You can make some serious power with those. Wish I head a set.

The best I can tell from pics those are 8 bolt valve covers. If they are and I am not wrong they are "canted" valves. That simply means they are not placed in the head in a straight line, and they flow MUCH better than inline valves. I am sure there are all kinds of sites in "down-under land" that talks about the aussie heads. Just have to search the web.

Could we see some pictures? Here is how.

But I got ta say becoming a supporter is the fastest and easiest way to post pics right from
your whatever pad/cell thing or home computer.
Few of us look in the users Gallery or album as you can see by your recent visitors.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
The best photos and videos | Photobucket

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

Here's a tutorial Bob put together: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/67...-pictures.html Bob's link is not working. Can someone in the know tell me why?

How to upload pictures to the FTE Forums. - YouTube. Thanks Sam Rusty_Old_F250. Best we can find is that this video was done by Gundown64

It has a Cleveland engine, hence the cantered valves, these were produced later in the 70s in Australia. Last used in 1983 in a passenger car.

The easiest engine upgrade is to rebuild it with a 351 crank and conrods.

For info look at www.fordforums.com.au in the Cleveland section. Lots of blokes into them there.

Ah okay, I was thinking of eventually stroking it out or swapping for a 351. I will jump on that forum in the next few days

I can't imagine trying to drive that thing from the right side and shifting with your left hand. Drivers training all over again. Needs some TLC but seems fairly solid. Good luck with your project.

Hey mate,

Where are you located? Quite a few of us over in the F Series and Bronco forum on fordforums.com.au. Your truck actually looks like a good start to me, not much in the way of serious structural rust obvious in the photos. Someone made a mess of the roof though, installing the sunroof! Good luck with it.

Cheers,

Andrew.

I live in Albury/Wodonga right on the border but only for the next 6 months or so. Yeah I will jump on and have a look and introduce myself on there. Um there seems to be a bit in the sills in the Cabin but won't really know until I sand her back. Yeah no idea what they were thinking there. Thanks
