I appreciate everyone's help and time earlier in looking the warranty codes for my truck. I might as well add a post from time to time as I rebuild this one.

I bought it from a nice local couple that had owned it since 2007. When they bought it they drove it for a short time. They took a few parts off of it to begin a restore and that's as far as they got with it.

When I bought it from the couple they included most of the taken off stuff. They also never cleaned out the console. It contained Louisiana tag registrations listed to one owner from 1969-2007. I did a google check and the prior owner is still above ground and living in the same town. The town is about 1.5hrs from here so the truck has not gone far in the last 44+ years.

So far I have removed the gas tank which contains about 8-10 gallons of very stale gas. I rebuilt the 1 barrel and I have ran the motor using a remote gas tank. I have a 72 custom I got for spare parts for the XLT. It is the gray truck in the background pictured above. It has a 302/C4 with power steering and 3.23:1 rear end. I may rob parts off of it for the 65 later.

The 65 has some dinged up side trim. I hope they start making reproduction trim again soon! My short term plans are to finish cleaning up the truck and to make it safe and roadworthy. Have a nice one, Jason

That's a great collection you got going there lots of white in the mix. Interesting story behind the 65 usually one or 2 owner trucks are the better ones to get as they are usually more appreciated over the years

Great, when you have a chance, head over to the Ms Chapter site and check it out. Great bunch and a couple of members have 65-66 models.

Shadowrider123, It appears to have stock suspension. It could be the radial tires are smaller than original and I also took the picture from higher ground. My back yard slopes down to a creek.

I am dying to get these two trucks going but since I have the flu right now its going to be a few days! Jason

Mazlem, I won't be ordering many parts anytime soon. I couldn't find a decent local 65-66 so I snapped up the white XLT. After I got it home the 65 popped up for sale local. I bought it with funds I had set aside to refresh the XLT! The 65 had been on and off of craigslist for about a year or more. I went and looked at it on a whim. It was covered in oak leaves and tree stains. Other then that it was fairly straight and with only a few minor rust areas. The owners said that I was the first person to actually come and look at it after all the times it was listed for sale.

On another note I am sick as a dog and getting worse. I will be at a local medical clinic in the morning if not sooner. Jason

If you are hurting for money to get the XLT looking pretty, I could scrape up a few dollars to take the 65 off your hands.

Just call me Mr. Helper!

I would like to have the truck but not bad enough to wish that you die of pneumonia.

There are other trucks.

In the event you do check out, let her know that I will haul all your junk trucks off free of charge.

I am finally about over the flu and feeling about human again. When this cold snap is over I need to dump and reinstall the gas tank. I want to drive the truck around for a little while to see how it performs with the six cylinder. I am torn over whether to keep it stock or to install the 302/c4.

I also plan to paint it another stock ford truck color that will go with the stock red interior. I like the Rangoon red and also the Maroon color that Mustangs and passenger cars came with. Did Ford offer the F100's in the same colors as the Mustangs in 65?

If I install the 302/C4 from my 72 parts truck I will probably be switching out the rear gears. Can I just swap 3rd members or do 65 and 72 rear ends have different splined axles?

Thanks, Jason

Without looking it up, I believe Rangoon Red was offered in '65 as a truck color. Back in that day, you could special order your truck painted in any Ford color you wanted from the factory, so you could have had Rangoon Red in any case.

Since my last post I have cleaned the gas tank and filled it with some kind of tank liner. It is reinstalled and I have been driving it on my property. Now I have to rebuild the master cylinder and figure out why the alternator is not charging. The engine wiring harness is modified so I will start there.

I recently sold the 72 XLT on ebay so I may actually be able to put some money into the 65!
