77 Highboy leaf springs

Both my current highboys have been modified somewhat by previous owners, but the 77 is REALLY been changed around.........First off, both are highboys, with divorced T-cases, but the 77 has front leaf spring packs unlike what ive see previously, leading me to believe that much of this truck is non stock, any guesses as to what these springs came out of?

Even though pics werent going to load for me, i think ive figured out what my 77 has for front springs........A guy on here posted a photo of what he thought was a Highboy with 3 leaf front springs......upon other people asking him questions, turns out he has got a Lowboy, apparently with 4" front springs........While ive got a Highboy, it seems like its got later model springs....im gonna measure whether or not the spring mounts have been modified

OEM 73-77 highboy front leafs are 3" wide and are 6 leafs. Here are some pics of wore out ones. Hence the front block by the PO....bad call.

And a set in my junk parts lot, yes the bottom 2 leafs are cracked. That's why they are in the junk lot. Here is my fix, a Rough Country 4" set.

77.5 to 79 low boy are 3" wide and only 2 leafs. The last pic is my 77.5 lowboy with a single leaf add-a leaf that I put in myself.

I doubt the pictures will load, but the 6 leaf stock highboy pack is exactly what the 76 has( its a miracle they arent completely flattened, the Koenig winch and front bumper assembly likely weigh 300 lbs, or more!) and the 77 has 3 leaf, positive arch front springs

The pics, they didn't.....and you see my leafs don't you? 3 leaf is probably a PO installed add-a leaf or some dealership snow plow set up?

Most 2 leaf are neutral or negative arch.

I went out and looked at the 77, they certainly arent a set of 2 leaf with an add-a-leaf, they are the typical multi leaf pack with a short bottom leaf, a mid length middle leaf, and the full length upper leaf that goes from the rear shackle to the front crossmember. all three leaves are same thickness, with the same taper on the ends, and plenty of positive arch! in terms of clearance, id have to say they are closer in height to the Rough Country 4" than the blocked highboy.....Here the trucks are side by side, the 76 has 255/85/16's and the 77 has 285/75/16's, so both are running basically 33" tires, but the 77 certainly sits higher.........For some damned reason, this pic loads everytime!

I see what looks like an old "Go Rhino" front axle truss on the R/H one. And a single bar truss on the L/H one.

Your eyes are sharp.......thats exactly what they have! For years, the Highboy has been super popular here throughout Oregon, i still see a lot of them here. Many have had some nice additions and improvements, and then again there are still some rather pristine original ones as well

Well they should be I remember their add in Offroad and 4Wheeler mag's from a long time ago.

Plus when I got the lift kit package deal off the California Craigslist a while back, it also came with a brand new front and rear set of Go Rhino's with all the mount hdwr.

I still have them in the shed....someday they might go on? I think in a mudding situation that might be more of a hindrance.

They might go on ol red if it gets put on tow rig duties.

The bluish green one, the 77 has a "branded" title, so it had been reconstructed at one time......Ive got no idea when all the work had been done, the owner before me got it as it sits today.......it was originally a 400M and had an incab tank.....all the added/subtracted stuff appear to be of similar age, but someone put some time and money into it......swapped in 460, integral power steering, Warn bumper, aftermarket bucket/center console seating, fender flares, GoRhino truss, emblems, side mirror holes, fuel filler removed, body work done and painted, under bed and frame reinforced for a 5th wheel hitch, 78/79 front, etc......Frankly, i dont like the side mirrors, and i wish the builder didnt put in a goddamned sunroof, like most it leaks....

Not stock leafs, not HB either....but at least not negative arched either.

It looks like your shock tower is loose? Or is that just a weird angle view?

I see what you mean.....it looks like there is a 1/2" +or - gap between it and the frame......I will take a close look later.....Regarding this truck and "stock", Hell nothing else on it is stock, other than the divorced 205 T-case, why am i surprised?

As long as it always does the big 3 (start, stop and steer) life is good and all else can be fixed.
