Unless you have some oddball, you do not have one or the other, a '65 F250(or newer) or a straight front axle. '65 and up went with twin I-beam which would be really difficult to change to 4WD.

Get down on the top of passenger side frame rail just ahead of where the axle passes under for the GO TO VIN. Digits are about 1/8" high and it starts with F. It may be hard to dig out but it is there.

Door tags can be swapped and the truck can be titled to the door tag.

I am saying that it is a possibility, starting in 65 Ford 2wd pickups got the Twin I-beams. Straight axles stopped in 64. Your 65 F250 should have Twin I-Beam.

the transfer case lever is simple........you cut a hole in the tranny tunnel. it will need to be long enough to allow full travel of the 4 positions of a Dana 24 or Np205 T-case, you should be able to get a shifter boot and all the hardware out of a junkyard donor truck....ive owned 6 F-series trucks, only 1 had totally matching VIN/doortag/powertrain/body combo.....all the others had been changed from factory original, its hardly a rare occurence

Exactly. Mine is one of those rare occurrences, all but tailgate is (or was) original....'65 F250 twin I-beam just like the OP's should be.

It could be an F350. Still used I-beam axle on F350's in 65 and 66 single or dual tired trucks
