camper tie-downs

Some silly fool removed all the original tie downs from my 75 f350 super camper special, aftermarket hitch and trailer wiring and im wondering where I can find replacements, a hitch receiver is easy enough, but want to get a camper for it this summer. Wondering if anyone knows of a good frame mount system, torklift does not make them for 73-79s. Or if the originals are re made or sold anywhere. Thanks for any help

Are you talking about the plates that mount on the inside of the bed and the come out over all 4 stake pockets and they bend down towards the ground. And you connect the turnbuckles to them?

I would think that any camper supply or camper/trailer/Rv shop might have some. Or maybe some newer style ones can be retrofitted?

No im not about to leave the safety of the camper up to the nearly 40 year old bed that has spent its entire life here in Canada. I meant frame mounted tie downs. I can see that there was brackets on the frame just rear of the cab at one point.

How were the campers tied down back then? Can anyone fill me in.

You never said FRAME mounted tie downs. I have never seen the FRAME mounted tie downs your were talking about, so maybe a welding shop can make you something.

I have seen a solid cross bar mounted on the underside of the frame (sticking out of each bed side by a few inches) and then turn buckles were connected to the camper overhang corners..

There are 37 TL dealers in BC, 19 in AB Canada region and NO one has anything that will work.

What about this?

I worked at a camper sales place in the middle 70's, we just used the stake pocket tie downs on most things. There was a New Chevy that came in one time and it had factory tie downs to the frame. It was chromed tubular pieces that went right through holes stamped in the box sides, only seen one of those. Never seen frame mounts on a Ford. Some of the older trade ins that came in were bolted straight down through the floor and into the truck frame. I always thought those stake pocket mounts were asking for trouble.

I have a 74 F350 Super Camper Special and it still has the original factory frame mounted anchor tie downs. That's a shame somebody removed them as they are unique. I'm pretty sure they are obsolete and I have never seen a set on Ebay. I did see a set on a SCS in a junkyard about a year ago and I should have pulled them. Happijac does not make a front bed anchor for these SCS since the front pocket in inaccessible due to the spare tire carrier. The only thing I can think of is if you purchased a Tork Lift set and see if it could be modified to fit the frame or had one fabricated.

I think this is what dj is asking about. The 1st photo is of the left front frame mount and the next is of the chrome tie downs. These are factory parts that where available as an option.

Sorry, I have no idea where to find them except yard scrounging and luck.

Erich

take some measurements as to clearance, width, etc.......then start by doing a junkyard cruise to see if any other trucks came with something that could be made to work. otherwise you just may need to fabricate something.....if you can find someone who has factory made ones, you should be able to determine proper thickness of metal required for safe, secure tie down

Thanks for all the input guys, judging by those pics that is exactly what the truck had, ive contacted torklift to see if anything they have could be modified. No response yet. A teenager had this truck before me, he thought hed make ahot rod out of a 1 ton, finally came to his senses and I got it for $800 so I cant complain! Runs strong, very little rust and will pull stumps out with ease

Pic doesn't show that there were 4 of the 277A18's installed, two front and two rear...all are the same.

Exclamation

Would love to get this thread back in action and hear about what you ended up doing to tie down your camper? I also have a CS and would love to find OEM tie downs. I can still see the paint that was protected on the frame where they mounted! I really wish they were never taken off.

1977 Ford F-350 Ranger, camper special

Did you find anything out for tie downs. I have the same exact truck and my daughter he’d the toe down system removed and I am wanting to put a camper on it as well and have not had any luck finding a tie down system for this truck
