I know this isn't deserving of a new post but I need all the moral support as possible! Got my new support in. So glad to have made some progress. I'm ready to get my steering gearbox installed then radiator, ac condenser, header panel, lights, and bumper. Hope to fire it back up tomorrow!
Got a new 6637 filter and brand new chrome grill!
Thanks guys, it was in pretty good shape although it had two cracks i welded up. I sanded it down and painted it. I could not believe the mess the PO left. The other one was just about torn in three pcs!
Yeah, they get pretty bad. This truck I have now is the only one of these trucks I have ever owned (and there have been a bunch of them) that the rad support doesn't have a spec of rust......cause it came from Texas! I have two rust free supports that came from Oklahoma that I am hanging on to for future projects. If I ever find another one, I'll try to ****** it up too! LOL!
I hear you Bill! Glad you got some good ones! Here's what the old one looked like for carnage!
big crack up by the weld.
over on the upper left, you can see cab bolt still attached. The bracket rusted out on passenger side to the point I could lift the cab bolt off of frame. At least I didn't have to get it loose! The driver side didn't even have a spot to mount a cab bolt. It was welded to the frame about and an inch forward of where it should have been and the whole support was twisted when it was attached. crazy.
update: just took her out for a test drive around the block without a bumper or grill!
Didn't quite get up to temp but I made a good loop and no noise from my rear end vibration after the rear pinion change! big thanks to Bill for the help getting that stupid thing off! Ended up renting a two jaw puller and that did the trick!
-Got my new 6637 air filter plumbed up and all is well and she's breathing better i'm sure.
-filled the steering gearbox with fluid and got power steering working again and the new/used free gearbox is in much better shape than the last. no wondering anymore.
So far no leaks! I hope it stays that way.
All that's left to do is adjust headlights and put new shiny grill on, signal light bezels, and bumper on and I'm done thank God! Tommorow will be the completion day and it's even two day ahead of my expected completion date thanks to an early delivery of lenses!
Boy am I tired but I did some major improvements this week and I'm very satisfied!
As of today I am complete! Even cleaned up garage so the mrs. can put the van back in!
She's glad to have me back!
I can't say I'd be excited to ever have to do this again but it feels good to know that things are the way they are supposed to be up front!
