Just bought a 2000 V10 project ex, dome lights won't go off and I've narrowed it down to the back hatch but can't see any indication of a switch, a little help please! TIA
I believe it's part of the latch. You have to replace the whole latch.
Personally, I just unplugged the latch and jumped the connector until I get to buy a replacement
It has a latch on both sides, remember which side has the wiring? Sounds like an 06' GMC truck I have, built into the latch and let me tell you they are proud of that sucker, not cheap!
Brass contactors on the upper in-side.
Open the top hatch, you will see a group of them. 4 or 5?
Use some emery cloth, or light sandpaper and clean the tips as well as the contact patch.
Mine does the same thing if I do not close it tight. Happens more so in the winter due to the gas struts being colder and stiff
Could also be your latch NOT latching tight enough? But highly doubt it unless the hatch was replaced or in an accident at some point and got tweaked

I think someone was able to clean the sensors and that fixed it. Not sure how long it lasted. do a search
I've owned it a week now and we used it on a Christmas day food delivery. Opened it a bunch that day and it started working about 50% of the time, It closes real nice and tight and I've found out I can usually hit the right side with my hand after it's closed and get it to work so I'm betting a good cleaning of the contacts is in order. Now if I can just figure out why the cruise and overhead display don't work...
And I am certain the contacts are on the right hand side, upper corner

It finally "clicked" with me what he was talking about, kinda like the contactors on a jeep tailgate for the 3rd brakelight. I just went and searched all over my hatch area and I don't have those contactors, I must have the model that had it built into the latch. BTW When I opened it to check this and shut it the lights went off properly, thinking I just need to use it a lot to clean the connection up as it's getting better and better!

Mine is a 2000 also but I think they are all in the same place. I would like to know for sure where that contact is before I start correcting it. Sometimes I have to slam the hatch to get the interior light to go off but even that doesn't work sometimes.
Give me until sunday, I am working until 9 tonight, then family Christmas tomorrow.
I will take a photo of mine, two shots. One standing back with the hatch open and one close up
Hell if you want send me a pm and cell# And I will text it to you
That might even be faster
