Under any "NORMAL" circumstances, originality and purity are highly regarded in an automotive project. That don't apply here! lol I am installing a 1980 Chevrolet 229cid V6 w/3spd manual into a 1974 FORD COURIER Pickup. Both items were donated for this, so I will see what the final cost of a "FRANKENSTEIN" driver ends up.
A 5 or 6 speed would be nicer, but the 3 speed came with the motor free lol my biggest hurdles are the fabricating a new mount system for the chevy lump and crossmember for the tranny. Then there is going to be all the driveline issues to contend with... I'll try to post some pics as I go.
That is why we suggest it now before you start fabricating for THAT trans. It would be easier just to spend the extra 2-300 dollars now getting a diff trans instead of 6-800 later. Know what I mean?
2-300 dollars now????? did you not see the funding schedule??? THERE AINT ONE! This ENTIRE project wont reach $200. Roadworthy and safe are the only required goals lol. (aint you glad you aint in Seattle?) oh, pics are in my garage.
Personal choice. But I bet in the end after driving it for a bit, you will really start to hate that 3spd. If you have paid for none of the other stuff, then what is the harm in doing one upgrade now is what I was saying.
Go for it! I drove a '73' Courier for several years with a 289/302 with a C-4 and didn't have a bit of trouble. With that light weight and power, was able to make use of a 8" 3.00 Mavrick rear end. This was way back when you saw so many V-8 Luvs/S-10's.
