Truck is an 02 F250 Lariat, electric drivers side seat and the seats are leather. As I mentioned in another thread the manual lumbar support broke with a loud bang one evening as I was driving. I would like to take the cover off the seat back and see what actually happened. It is an extended cab, there is a plastic cover over most of the rear of the seat back for protection from people/objects in the area behind the seats. I do not want to tear anything up trying to get this cover off or the rear seat cover upholstery. The seat belt is attached to the top of the seat back, above the driver's left shoulder. Anyone ever had one of these disassembled? I have looked online for videos or photos but have not had much luck.
If you pull that plastic cover off the seat back the lumbar is right there. There's a thin little paper thin metal tab that the lumbar cable attaches to. The cover is held on by those plastic Christmas trees and 2 or 3 tabs. Just pull them as straight out as possible and they hopefully would break if the do the have them at lowes and advanced auto.
Thanks, I figured that was probably how the cover was held on but I do not want to screw it up or break it so I thought I would ask first. This helps a lot, thanks again.
I got the cover off the back of the seat and I found the tab that holds the lower end of the lumbar support tension spring had broken.
This was my simple fix, I had a short 1/4" eye bolt on hand, simply bolted it in the 1/4" hole that was already there in the lumbar support assembly and slipped the lower spring loop into the eyebolt. Whole repair process took an hour and that included a trip to the local auto parts to get a couple of new Christmas tree plastic trim retainers.
